If you are new to Lionism, through these pages you will be able to find out about the work of the international organisation of Lions and our Lions Club in particular.
If you are a Lion, and perhaps planning to visit our area, we hope that the information on our website will encourage you to visit us.
Burgess Lion District Lions are proud to have been named Charity of the Year 2008 in the Bright Awards. We offer our thanks to Bright 106.4 and all those who voted for us.
The International Association of Lions Clubs was founded in America in 1917. Now, with almost 1.4 million members worldwide in 43,000 clubs, it is the world's largest and most active Service Club Organization.
The Lions motto is "WE SERVE" and its mission statement reads "To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international co-operation".
Our aim is to help the less fortunate in our society with our activities concentrating on the needs of the local community. We raise money for local, national and international projects and participate in service activities to all age groups. In addition to assisting others, we organise various social events for our members and have fun.
LCIF is the Lions Club International Foundation, the official charitable Foundation of Lions Clubs International, and brings help, hope and healing to the world. Grant funding is awarded to Lions districts worldwide for large-scale humanitarian projects that address community needs.
The Foundation's mission is to support the efforts of Lions clubs worldwide in serving their local communities and the world community as they carry out essential humanitarian service projects. Through LCIF, Lions tackle global problems such as blindness and hearing loss and respond to major catastrophes such as earthquakes and floods. Currently they are supporting communities in Australia, New Zealand and Japan following their recent disasters.
Burgess Hill District Lions Club is part of the Multiple District 105 that covers Great Britain and all of Ireland. We are one of over 80 clubs in the South East of England that make up District 105SE.
This is now our 60th Year! Click here to read more about this. One of our most distinguished members, David Saunders, was awarded the MBE for his services to charity in the 2007 New Year Honours List and was visited by the Lions International President Wing Kun Tam in March 2012 to give him the International President's Award for 60 years of Service to Lionism.
