Burgess Lion District Lions are proud to have been named Charity of the Year 2008 in the Bright Awards. We offer our thanks to Bright 106.4 and all those who voted for us. The International Association of Lions Clubs was founded in America in 1917. Now, with almost 1.4 million members worldwide in 43,000 clubs, it is the world's largest and most active Service Club Organization. The Lions motto is "WE SERVE" and its mission statement reads "To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international co-operation". Our aim is to help the less fortunate in our society with our activities concentrating on the needs of the local community. We raise money for local, national and international projects and participate in service activities to all age groups. In addition to assisting others, we organize various social events for our members and have fun. Burgess Hill District Lions Club is part of the Multiple District 105 that covers Great Britain and all of Ireland. We are one of over 80 clubs in the South East of England that makes up District 105SE. This is now our 55th Year! Click here to read more about this. One of our most distinguished members, David Saunders, was awarded the MBE for his services to charity in the 2007 New Year Honours List. Lions are: Members of the world's largest service organization and people who give something back to the community. They are people who identify the needs of others and set about meeting those needs and have fun while helping those less fortunate than themselves. Lions Clubs: Can be all male, all female or of both genders. |
